Schlesinger named Chair of MI&I

Dr. Larry Schlesinger has been named Chair of The Ohio State University College of Medicine's new Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity.

Previously Director of Ohio State's Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Internal Medicine, Dr. Schlesinger also serves as the founding Director of OSU's Center for Microbial Interface Biology, an interdisciplinary campus-wide program focusing on infectious diseases, and is the current Director of Ohio State's Medical Scientist Training Program, which receives its support from highly coveted funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to propel education of medical students in both clinical medicine and basic science research.

Dr. Schlesinger is a world-renowned scientist, who has published more than 100 studies, book chapters and reviews and has received continuous funding from the NIH and other institutions for more than 20 years. He has served as a member or chair of several NIH study sections and has served on numerous national advisory boards. Dr. Schlesinger is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Academy of Microbiology, and was recently named a 2011 Ohio State University Distinguished Scholar. He has mentored 21 post-doctoral researchers, nearly 50 MD and PhD students and more than 30 undergraduate students.
