Target/Hiring Range: $33,000 - $35,000 per year Detailed Job Description: The job will involve developing novel methods for and conducting in vivo and in vitro evaluation of antiparasitic drug candidates. This work will be conducted under the supervision of Dr. Karl Werbovetz in the Division of Medicinal Chemistry in the College of Pharmacy as part of a Gates Foundation funded project involving an international consortium of researchers. Our laboratory is responsible for studies with the intracellular protozoan parasite Leishmania, an important cause of morbidity and mortality in the developing world. Description of Duties: 50% In vivo evaluation of antileishmanial compounds in a murine model Experience: A Ph.D. or equivalent experience in microbiology, parasitology, or a related discipline is required. Experience with animal research models and eukaryotic cell culture is also required; familiarity with animal models of infectious diseases is desirable. The research is focused on the carbohydrate and lipid determinants of the M. tuberculosis cell wall that mediate interactions with human host cells. Candidates must possess a PhD in Biochemistry, Microbiology, or a related field. Experience in microbial biochemical techniques and analytic methods, and in biosafety level 3 work practices is desired. The laboratory has recently moved into new research space, and The Ohio State University represents an emerging leader in host-pathogen studies.
